Further to my recent ramblings over the requirement for an MOT I am pleased to say that the response has been quite positive and the Club has decided to ‘trial’ vehicles not having an MOT until the next AGM in August. This will enable us to see how it runs, it means that from now on at any event a member can bring a vehicle along that has NO MOT. This is not to say that any old shed will be allowed to compete and if anything the scrutineering will be quite thorough for the vehicles first event as safety is paramount for our members and the event. What it does mean is that lights, emmisions & the 101 other things needed for a road legal vehicle will not be needed for a challenge truck. Obviously with emissions if it’s smoking like an old tramp steamer we may have an issue! but so long as all the club vehicle rules are complied with, an MOT is not now needed. I would also add that any such vehicle needs to be trailered to an event on a road legal trailer and not on a towing dolly or on a tow pole. The law requires all four wheels to be off the ground when it is towed unless it is a taxed & tested vehicle. We don’t want as a Club to attract the attention of the local Police to our events.
So now if you have the idea for a ‘dream’ off road vehicle & don’t want the hassle of getting it through an MOT you can build one and play with it. Four wheel steering anyone!
