CLCC Challenge Rules – 2009-2010
At the committee meeting on 4th August 2009 it was agreed that the following rules would apply for the coming Challenge Series. Class 1 vehicle: Standard vehicle, mud tyres, lifted Class 2 vehicle: One winch (hoop or roll cage required) Class 3 vehicle: Two winches (hoop or roll cage required) Lockers: Whether they are fitted or not, they will make no difference to your classification. The Challenge Series will take place for points only, with trophies awarded at the end of the year at the club’s AGM. Of the six events, points will be counted for a competitor’s best five events. This allows everyone to have a holiday/disaster and still be in the running for a good position. Points for classes: Class 1 - 10 points per punch Class 2 - 50 points per punch Class 3 - 100 points per punch On entering an event, your vehicle will be entered into a particular class. You must get all the punches in that class before you attempt punches in another class. Once you have filled you punch card with all the punches for your class, then you can attempt punches in the next class up, or for Class 3 vehicles, the next class down. (Note: for Class 1 vehicles, you can only attempt punches in Class 2 if your vehicle qualifies under the safety rules, i.e. roll cage, etc.) If you hand your punch card in at the end of the event and you have not completed all your class punches then any other punches gained will not count for any points. Any soft top vehicle must have a roll hoop. If the manufacturer has fitted one then this is satisfactory for Class 1. For Class 2 & 3, a roll hoop of 48mm x 3mm tube is required with a cross brace (can be bolt-on). The hoop should be of one continuous piece of pipe, not pieces welded together. A full roll cage can be of several sections welded together. Scaffold tube is acceptable for this purpose, however, the decision on ‘fit for purpose’ is at the discretion of the scrutineering team on the day. It is also strongly recommended (but not compulsory) that any soft top vehicle with a hoop or roll cage has a metal roof over the driver and co-driver, which can be a simple plate bolted in place. This is purely to protect the occupants in the event of rolling over onto a large rock or tree stump. It has happened! All novices to complete a Class 1 event before moving up to another class. If you have a winch fitted to your vehicle but want to enter either a Class 1 or Class 2 event, then the winch can be sealed with a club seal. In the event of you needing to use the winch at some point during the day you should find a club official or marshal to cut the seal and reseal it after use. Any unauthorised cutting of the seal will void the score card.
